Snowvision FAQ
February 16, 2007
What is Snowvision?
Snowvision is a broadband channel for the snowboard community.
Who’s behind it?
Snowvision was created by Diversion Media, a New York-based company founded by people from MTV, iFilm, and IGN, among other places. We also publish a site called Travelistic.com.
Where do you get your content?
Some of our content is from DVD producers like Standard Films. Some of it is produced by us. Some of it is uploaded by users. If you have snowboarding content you want to see on Snowvision, you can just go ahead and upload it – if you’ve got questions contact us at content@snowvision.com.
Can I embed videos on my blog/MySpace page?
Yes! We encourage that! Just use the embed code. You can’t embed videos on a commercial site without our permission, however (although if you upload videos yourself, you can always publish them on your own site).
How can I give you feedback?
You can either click on “feedback” in the top nav to use our survey form, or you can post suggestions and comments in the Snowtalk forum.
What is your schedule for original content?
We add content as it is produced. Right now we are dedicated to publishing at least one good original video a day.
How do you make money?
We sell advertising. Right now there are Google ads on some of the pages, and we are working on sponsorships for next year (2007-8 season).
What technologies do you use?
We encode our videos in Flash 8 (if you can’t see them, you probably need to go download it from Macromedia). If you upgrade to Flash 9 you can see them in full-screen mode. We use an in-house video delivery platform, written in Ruby on Rails, with the On2 codec for encoding. The interface is mostly AJAX. Our servers are hosted by Layered Technologies, and our videos are hosted by Amazon’s S3.
Who designed the site?
Snowvision’s design team was led by Samuel Spitzer, Creative Director, from Splay New York, and included Stash and Ben Drury.
Who do I contact if I’m interested in advertising and sponsorship opportunities with Snowvision?
You can email us at sales@snowvision.com to talk about opportunities for the 2007-2008 season.
Where does the resort information come from?
We’re licensing data from Onthesnow.com for our resort section.
What if I want to submit news and information to Snowvision?
The best way is to just post in the Snowtalk forum.
What is “Sponsor Me”?
Sponsor Me is a special area for riders who want to get recognized in the industry. It’s optional – if you upload your own videos you can choose to be in that section or not.
How can I sort and search videos?
From any video page you can go to the "View All Videos" page, which is the easiest way to see all of our content at once.
Can I download Snowvision videos to my iPod?
Some you can, some you can’t. We are testing this to see what the demand is like right now.
